PORTABLE SPICE RACK

Start with a bead organizer:

When we go on vacation, we typically rent a house or condo instead of staying in motels. This gives me the flexibility to cook if I want. I can't bring my spice racks with me, but I can bring a portable mini-rack! Click the photo for a look->

• Start with a "bead organizer" available at Michaels craft stores and on Amazon.com like this one by Darice:

Great for college kids and first apartments!

• I made up this kit for my daughter who is away at college. She is a darn good cook (better than many people twice her age) and this kit lets her experiment in the kitchen when she feels the urge.

• There are larger bead organizers with as many as 24 or even 30 jars. Just beware that some organizers are "stacks" of interlocking jars which might be a pain to actually use when you want a spice that's "in the middle" of the stack.
